Can you tell us about your background and what first sparked your interest in France?

My interest in France began in high school, where I was introduced not only to the French language but also to the depth of its culture. This fascination grew stronger as I pursued my undergraduate degree at Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi, while also studying French at Alliance Française de Delhi. Both experiences shaped my academic and personal trajectory, making France a natural next step for higher studies.

What motivated you to choose France for your Master’s studies?

France stood out for its strong academic reputation, multicultural environment, and innovative approach to higher education. What appealed to me most was the opportunity to pursue an English-taught program while simultaneously improving my French skills. The real challenge was shortlisting the right specialization because France offers so many excellent programs. Ultimately, my background in Business Management and long-term career goals guided me toward the Double Degree Programme Grande École (PGE) in International Human Resources Management at École Supérieure de Commerce — Rennes School of Business.

How did you finance your studies in France?

I was fortunate to receive the France Excellence Charpak Master Scholarship from the Institut Français en Inde (IFI), Embassy of France.

This scholarship not only eased the financial burden but also validated my academic journey and motivation. It gave me the encouragement to fully embrace the opportunities that France offers, both in academia and beyond.

Tell us about your professional experiences in France.

I had the opportunity to work with Allianz Partners SAS in Paris in the Human Resources Department, specifically with the International Mobility team. My role involved supporting global employee mobility processes, mobility projects, and assisting with cross-cultural HR practices. A highlight was gaining firsthand exposure to the French working environment, collaborating with diverse teams, and understanding the nuances of international assignments. The experience was invaluable in building both professional expertise and cross-cultural adaptability.

What were some of the challenges you faced when settling in France?

Settling in France brought a mix of administrative and cultural challenges. Finding suitable accommodation was one of the first hurdles, as housing options were limited and competitive. Setting up a bank account and handling paperwork took time and patience. On the cultural side, even though I had prior exposure to French, adapting to fast-paced daily conversations was demanding. Still, each challenge became part of the learning curve and helped me integrate more smoothly into French student life.

What do you value most about your academic experience?

For me, the highlight of studying at École Supérieure de Commerce — Rennes School of Business has been the balance between academic rigour and cultural immersion. The courses are intellectually stimulating and enriched by diverse perspectives.

Innovative teaching methods, the chance to work with industry experts, and the constant exchange of ideas with peers from all over the world made my academic journey deeply fulfilling.

Do you have advice for students considering France for higher studies?

Come with an open mind, a structured plan, and a lot of patience for paperwork. Start early with essentials like housing and administrative formalities, because being prepared eases the transition. Even basic French goes a long way — it not only smoothens daily life but also shows respect for the culture. Beyond academics, immerse yourself in local traditions, student networks, and cultural activities. The café conversations, the history, and the baguettes all teach you as much as the classroom does.
